EuGMS Congress

The European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS) is the society that gathers geriatric medicine society from all European countries. Its mission includes supporting the development of health services suitable for an ageing population and the promotion of evidence for the most efficacious preventive and treatment strategies for older people in Europe. In its yearly congress, it usually hosts symposia where the results of research projects funded by European agencies are present to the more than two thousand attendees.

The results of SO-NUTS were presented in September in Valencia (Spain) during the 2024 EuGMS Congress by three young researchers of the French, Dutch and Spanish team. The symposium provided new insights on sarcopenic obesity, including the proposal of a new index to measure and the development of an app to monitor this condition, and the consideration of psychological methods to promote a change in longstanding habits. It was well attended and followed by a lively discussion.

“After the recently proposed definition, sarcopenic obesity is now a cutting-edge focus of research for geriatricians and nutritionists. New relevant finding will be coming to the field in the next few years.” (Prof. Alfonso J. Cruz-Jentoft MD PhD)

“It was a real pleasure to see young talented researchers from different professional background presenting the new SO-NUTS data. I am confident that they will advance interdisciplinary research on sarcopenic obesity and inspire others to join them.“ (Prof. Eva Topinková MD PhD)
